A New Confidence of Local Design
What stayed with me after D5 Home was a sense of confidence and pride. For the third year in a row, Efreshli successfully brought together top local brands in an exquisite curation that translated the website experience and design database into a physical, on-the-ground exhibition. Finally, we are able to see the new and experience these products in reality.
D5 Through My Lens

More than anything, the exhibition felt like proof of how much local Egyptian design has evolved. Local brands are no longer only responding to global trends or looking outward for validation. They felt rooted here, yet driven by a new ambition to create trends locally. More and more, they are building their own visual language, a dialogue shaped by authentic materials, craftsmanship, culture, and a willingness to take risks.
That shift was clear in the work itself and in the way each brand’s booth was curated.
Having evolved my taste as a designer over the past 15 years, I found myself drawn to pieces that felt bold, unexpected, and unapologetic. I was attracted to objects with strong materiality, playful forms, and real presence. What stood out was not just craftsmanship, but the way craft itself is evolving. Materials and colors are being pushed further, used with greater confidence, and shaped into work that feels more contemporary, expressive, and self-aware.
The mix of emerging and established local brands made the experience even stronger. It felt layered rather than uniform. Some pieces felt refined, others more experimental, but together they reflected a design scene that is growing into itself.
This Year's Favorites

A Final Word
Efreshli’s spatial curation and this year’s theme helped frame that clearly: a contemporary duality between current innovation and technology, and the rooted heritage deeply embedded in us as Egyptian designers. The exhibition encouraged dialogue between pieces and brands, making the experience feel less like retail and more like a point of view. It allowed visitors to move through the space with curiosity, not just as buyers, but as observers.
The spatial design, booths placements, color palettes, and overall lighting all contributed to an excellent visitor experience. The progression from one zone to the next was perfectly orchestrated, sustaining excitement throughout the journey from one booth to the next.
Can’t wait for the next edition!
